We Believe Black Survivors | Denim Isn’t Always Denim

Black women are at a higher risk of sexual violence for many reasons, including the fact they live at the intersection of both race-based and gender-based violence. Our country has a long history of sexual violence against Black people and a continued practice of hypersexualization of those same Black people, leading others to discredit and disbelieve Black survivors. Denim isn’t always denim, sometimes it’s skin color. When you participate in Denim Day, you are declaring that Colorado believes Black survivors.
